Shawnee is another one of our few, non-native Mainers, although she did transplant from Massachusetts as a teenager, so she is 100% New Englander (she even likes Winter…and snow blowing). She has been working in the medical field since 2006 and was drawn to it the way many people are – because she was surrounded by family members who also made it their career.
Given her insane talent for organization (she has three children), it’s no wonder that keeping tabs on two dentists, three hygienists, patients consistently checking in (and out) and answering a constantly ringing phone, is a piece of cake for her. She admits that if she wasn’t doing what she was doing, she would have gone to law school. We may have to start televising monthly debates between her and Dr. Drews!
Unlike some of her co-workers, Shawnee is not fearful of the dentist, in fact there’s not much that really terrifies her, although her bucket list doesn’t include any of the stereotypical adrenaline junkie shenanigans. However, she does want to go on safari in Africa and see the ‘Big Five’ up close and personal, so we’re not buying that she’s not a bit of a thrill seeker.
And we swear it’s not mandatory to have a dog in order to work at Drews Dental, but Shawnee is definitely part of the pack with her 100-lb doberman named Juno, who gets taken on the family camping trips every summer. We’re talking old school, right out of the pages of an L.L. Bean catalog, tent camping.
